What’s It to Me?
Wasting Cash
Erick
is a typical teenager, only he smokes so he doesn’t have very much money, few friends and all of which
smoked. Everyday he would beg, borrow, or steal the money he needed for a pack of cigs. He didn’t do anything
in school—no clubs, no sports—and he didn’t make very good grades either. (If Erick were to
buy a pack of cigs at $4.61 every day for 1 week he would be spending $32.27. If you saved all that
money for 50 years he would have over $80,000 – to be exact $84,132.50.)

Erick is a fun loving teenager. He is in basketball in school, and is the top player on the chess team. He is also working at the First National Bank. Every weekend he can be seen with his girlfriend Amy, going to the movies and out to eat. Just last weekend he took Amy and his friends out to Moody Gardens. He is planning on going to A&M, and becoming an architect. He knows that going to A&M will be expensive so he has also got a savings account.
Okay,
so let’s think about this for a minute. As you might have guessed this Erick is meant to be you. But which
one would you rather be? Only you can choose. So when you come across a situation when someone asks you to smoke,
remember Erick’s situation, and just say “NO.”
No buts!
Get the facts. Decide for yourself.
Live your life.
